This 1920s whodunit has everything you never wanted in a show—an unconscious leading lady, a corpse that can’t play dead, and actors who trip over everything (including their lines). Nevertheless, the accident-prone thespians battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain call, with hilarious consequences! Part Monty Python, part Sherlock Holmes, this Olivier Award–winning comedy is a global phenomenon that’s guaranteed to leave you aching with laughter!

Brüka Theatre finishes the 33rd season as we began—in a nightclub. Brüka’s 33rd season concludes with the 1998 revival of CABARET (Kander, Ebb, Materoff). As the glittering, dark 1920s give way to the emerging Third Reich, the Master of Ceremonies welcomes all to forget their troubles. His bawdy songs provide wry commentary as Cabaret explores the heady, dangerous life of Berlin. The shadow of history stretches across time. Decadence, Danger, and a New Era. Directed by Mary Bennett and Choreographed by Alexander Biber, the show runs from June 26 to July 18, 2026.

The Robert Z. Hawkins Amphitheater at the Bartley Ranch Regional Park will come alive with ballet grace and passionate rock, dance, and alternative music as A.V.A. Ballet Theatre presents Vortex, the Ballet That Rocks July 17th and 18th as part of the Artown celebration. Artistic director Alexander Van Alstyne has choreographed an exciting contemporary ballet that will be like no other you have ever seen. Imagine ballerinas performing grande jetés to music by popular rock artists. The stage will feature scaffolding and exciting props and sets that will create a visual spectacle that cannot be missed. Thanks to generous support from the Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, the E.L. Cord Foundation, and the Arthur and Mae Orvis Foundation, the rock ballet Vortex is free to the public. The gates open at 7:00pm for picnicking and the shows begin at 8:30pm. A.V.A. Ballet Theatre is the resident ballet company for the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. They are northern Nevada's largest company under the instruction of a professional faculty with years of performing experience in renowned metropolitan ballet and production companies across the United States and Europe. Vortex during the month of July is part of the 31st annual Artown festival. The month-long summer arts festival features more than 600 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide.

Experience the creativity and resilience of Northern Nevada childhood cancer warriors in this inspiring exhibit at The Hub at RED. Small pieces of artwork created by children and young adults affected by childhood cancer come together to form a larger collaborative work celebrating help, hope, courage, and community. During Artown, visitors can explore the artwork, enjoy a specialty beverage with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation, and engage with a custom coloring book page designed by The Hub’s marketing team to celebrate this unique partnership. “Gold Ribbon of Courage” honors the bravery of local childhood cancer warriors and invites the community to connect, reflect, and support, while highlighting the Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation’s vital work supporting families from the moment of diagnosis, into survivorship, and beyond. Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation supports families in Nevada, north of Tonopah, whose children ages 0-25 have a confirmed childhood cancer diagnosis. We assist families from the moment of diagnosis, through treatment, and into survivorship and follow-up care. At NNCCF, our mission is to enhance the quality of life for children with cancer and their families by providing financial assistance and compassionate support programs, while advocating for increased research funding and raising public awareness.

This year the fiber artists are celebrating the USA's 250th Anniversary by decorating the trees outside of the Wilbur May Museum with colorful fiber materials. Expect a lot of Red, White, and Blue.

Throughout July, use a variety of artistic media to contribute a piece to our community puzzle in honor of America's 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence! Using the theme of My America as your inspiration, decorate your piece to convey something you love about our country or Nevada. Patrons of all ages can drop in while supplies last to create a piece to contribute. Drop in during the library's normal operating hours.

Come and enjoy the assemblage art consisting of metal birds and dancers along the river. You can stroll the garden and smell the flowers. Bring a pic nic and sit in the shade in the park next door.

Check out the downtown library while it is draped in beautiful quilts made by the members of Truckee Meadows Quilters. While you are there, don't miss the special area celebrating our efforts to provide warm quilt hugs to those in need throughout our community. Stop by the library from 3-5 pm on Thursday, July 9, for a meet-and-greet with several of the makers of these fantastic works of art.

12:1 — A Show of Miniature Art This group exhibition transforms TMCC’s Main Gallery into a world of worlds—where miniature galleries exist within the gallery itself. Dollhouses are reimagined as intimate exhibition spaces, each carefully constructed and filled with tiny works by local Northern Nevada artists. These small-scale environments function as complete galleries, inviting viewers to peer inside, linger over details, and engage with art through close observation. By shifting the scale, the exhibition encourages visitors to slow down and reconsider how they experience art. Looking becomes physical and playful—bending closer and allowing imagination to bridge the space between the miniature and the monumental. Within these dollhouse galleries, craftsmanship, narrative, humor, and experimentation take center stage, revealing how meaning can be powerfully conveyed in even the smallest of forms. Hosted at TMCC’s Main Gallery located at the Dandini Campus and in collaboration with Wedge Outside the Box, 12:1 celebrates community, collaboration, and the inventive spirit of the region’s artists. By compressing the gallery experience into miniature worlds, the exhibition expands our understanding of scale, access, and wonder—reminding us that immersive experiences often begin with looking a little closer. Opening reception is on July 15th from 5-7 p.m. at TMCC’s Main Gallery. Gallery Hours: July 13 - August 6 Monday–Thursday: 7:30 a.m.–10 p.m.

Students will learn to print water-base inks on carved woodblocks using traditional Japanese art supplies and washi paper. Supplies will be provided. Each student will create several prints using various designs and color combinations. This workshop requires mobility: Students will be walking, standing and sitting. Students are invited to bring their own sack lunch and water.

This exhibition, which occupies every gallery of the Museum, invites visitors to consider how to move forward on our planet—ethically, responsibly, and with care for coming generations. It strives to catalyze and amplify protection for the Earth and build an awareness around environmental concerns on many different levels. In the process, it promotes forward-thinking models rooted in collectivity, engagement, and collaboration. A “time horizon,” a concept mostly used in economics, is a point in the future that one sets for the length of an investment. In his acclaimed novel The Ministry for the Future, Kim Stanley Robinson astutely describes the environment’s time horizon as the window of opportunity we still have to avert the most cataclysmic effects of climate change. The pattern of rising temperatures is evident in desert communities such as Reno, which has the unfortunate title of being the fastest warming city in the United States (with Las Vegas coming in second). Since 1970, Reno’s average annual temperature has increased by 7.8°F. Including nearly 200 artists, the exhibition sheds insight into the wide range of output, across all mediums, of makers who are integrating environmentalism into their innovative creative approaches. Ecofeminism is a recurring motif, with more than 50 percent of the artists identifying as female.

This room-sized installation, Children of the Earth (2019) by Ernesto Neto (b. 1964), pays homage to the Amazon rainforest and emphasizes the fecundity of the natural world at large. Neto’s immersive, cocoon-like presentation invites visitors to revel in the senses as he metaphorically transforms the space into a living organism to be activated by guests. Upon passing through the gallery threshold, they encounter a vibrant, sensual environment that entices them to explore and interact with it. This installation is part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

For more than two decades, Maya Lin (b. 1959) has engaged the vocabulary of cartography, producing artworks as diverse as stand-alone sculptures, civic monuments, and room-sized installations that manifest the complex natural and cultural systems operating in the world. In 2012 the Museum invited her to make Pin River–Tahoe Watershed in response to the unique Lake Tahoe landscape. After visiting with scientists at the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center, Lin created a series of works that visualize the foundational structures of the planet—in part by manufacturing an architecture of its natural features. This work is a part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

This section of the exhibition grounds the project and serves as the conceptual heart around which the other areas radiate. The myriad artworks on display underscore Indigenous ecological knowledge of diverse types, which have modeled care, respect, and protection of the land for millennia. Indeed, the understanding that life forms belong to and coexist with the natural world is a foundational aspect of Indigenous thought and precedes concepts of ecofeminism, environmentalism, and sustainability. Listening to and extending Indigenous ecological practice and experience is vital for the future well-being of life on Earth. As artist Rose B. Simpson has stated, “We are on a precipice right now, and everything we do will impact the land.” The exhibition endeavors to inspire audiences to envision that edge and carefully navigate away from it. Jeffrey Gibson’s mural The Land Is Speaking, Are You Listening inspires the title of this section, which features over fifty First Nations artists from Australia, the United States, and Canada. This section is part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

“Circularity” relates to a needed systemic overhaul in the way that we produce and dispose of materials. Instead of making an item to be used only once or twice and then tossed in the garbage—to sit in a trash dump for eternity—the idea of circularity encourages us to develop more sustainable approaches to the things we manufacture. If we can eliminate the linear cycle of production (creation to landfill) and transform it into a circular one predicated on reuse, recycling, repurposing, and regeneration, then we can eventually stem the profligate rubbish streams we generate and transform to a zero-waste economy. The works in this section exemplify the concepts embedded in circularity, their makers creating innovative art out of objects they have removed from the waste stream—political posters, discarded bottles caps, used Nike shoes, single-use plastic bags, scraps of wood, shipping envelopes, avocadoes, and even FEMA tarps. This section is a part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

This section showcases works that invite us to reflect on our interdependence on a multitude of animate and inanimate matter, including galaxies, insects, cephalopods, beavers, minerals, plant life, and forests. Posthuman philosophers, such as Rosi Braidotti, have been warning for decades about the perils of privileging human thought over other life forms. These theorists argue that the superimposition of reason, humanism, and the methodologies they have spawned has created the crises we struggle to overcome today, and that we have lost the capacity and ability to control their outcomes (AI, fossil fuel production, consumption, excess, waste, commerce, warfare, etc.). Instead, posthumanists propose the advancement of biodiversity, circularity, degrowth, resilience, nature, regeneration, inclusivity, and mutual coexistence. This necessarily requires displacing anthropocentrism as the ultimate paradigm against which all other concepts are weighed. This section is a part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

Strange Weather assembles works of art that represent the extreme climatic events taking place all around us. We live in a time distinguished by increasingly strange weather—a phenomenon atmospheric scientist Katharine Hayhoe likens to “global weirding.” Similarly, environmental activist Greta Thunberg has written that “the weather seems to be on steroids, and natural disasters increasingly appear less and less natural.” It’s hard to even quantify all the transformations we have witnessed in the last thirty years: megadroughts, melting ice caps, unabating wildfires, intense flooding, devastating hurricanes, stronger jet streams, warming oceans, heavier rainfall, dangerous bomb cyclones, rising sea levels, interminable heat waves, lethal tornadoes, and deadly storm surges. These are fueled by the greenhouse gases (such as CO2, methane, and nitrous oxide) we emit into the Earth’s atmosphere, speeding up the rate of change and amplifying the extremes. This section is part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

The Sixth Extinction identifies the precarious period we presently inhabit. Elizabeth Kolbert’s Pulitzer Prize–winning book of the same name inspires the title. In her masterful opus, Kolbert charts Earth’s previous five mass extinctions—from the Ordovician-Silurian events, occurring about 444 million years ago and resulting in the loss of around 85 percent of marine life, to the Cretaceous-Paleogene event some 66 million years ago, precipitated by an asteroid hitting the planet’s surface near present-day Mexico. Approximately 75 percent of all species on Earth became extinct. Kolbert discusses these historical episodes to emphasize that recent destruction, driven by human activity, is causing a similar loss of biodiversity. Epic shifts in the climate—whether ice ages, global warming, or severe volcanic activity—define each mass extinction. Yet, none of the previous five events occurred as fast as the one we are currently experiencing. Extinction, however, is not an endgame humans need to rehearse. The cataclysm doesn’t have to be us—there is still time to avert the sixth extinction. The time horizon, though, is narrowing. This section is part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

Several of the exhibition’s themes coalesce in Pierre Huyghe’s riveting nineteen-minute video Human Mask (2014): interspecies relationships, extreme weather, and extinction. Huyghe (b. 1962) sets his moving-image work in post-apocalyptic Fukushima, Japan, after the nuclear disaster of 2011, which occurred in the wake of a 9.0 magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami that surged over the seawall and flooded nuclear reactors. After panning remnants of the devastated city, the camera enters a small, abandoned restaurant, where a mysterious creature remains with a cat. This work is a part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

This Vital Earth encourages an ethical recentering in human consciousness of the approximately 4.5-billion-year-old “pale blue dot” (as scientist Carl Sagan described the Earth). In the mere 300,000 years that Homo sapiens have evolved, our planet’s centrality has become eclipsed by humanity’s view of itself as the center of life. Artists represented here revel in the interconnectedness of all living and nonliving things and return our gaze to the biodiversity that supports healthy and balanced ecosystems. Trees, which store carbon dioxide and push it into the ground with their roots, are the predominant motif in this section. Arboreal life helps to cool the atmosphere, like a kind of natural air conditioner, while also releasing necessary oxygen into the air. Assuredly, human life is contingent on the existence of trees and other living beings. The U.S. Department of Agriculture proposes that one large tree can provide a day’s supply of oxygen for up to four people. In recent years, scientists have learned about the intricate social networks trees have evolved, and some ecologists have posited that trees are even intelligent beings. Yet, deforestation—the result of agricultural expansion, cattle ranching, and commercial production of such goods as palm oil and timber—continues to threaten the plant life that has evolved over 400 million years. This section is part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

The works on view visually explore human impact on the Earth, primarily through the Museum’s Altered Landscape Photography Collection, which focuses on changes in natural, built, and virtual environments. The concept of the Anthropocene relates to the indelible, colossal imprint Homo sapiens have made on the planet. It suggests we have left the Holocene and entered a new geological epoch. When the Anthropocene began is still an open question though—this quandary and attempt to identify its geological marker is what scientists refer to as locating the “Golden Spike.” Some say it started with the Industrial Revolution; others suggest it was the advent of nuclear energy, or even the invention of the steam engine. Whether or not the precise date can be determined is hardly the point, however. What increasingly matters is that human impact on the Earth has become so wildly out of control that it has tipped the planet’s balance past the point of its own ability to heal and regenerate, causing a sixth mass extinction. The works on view loosely divide along subthemes, which all relate to and demonstrate the behavior of this new human epoch and how it manifests in relation to the environment. This section is part of the exhibition INTO THE TIME HORIZON.

The film and video program for Into the Time Horizon relates to the seven different discrete themes of the exhibition: Listening to the Land, Altered Lands and the Anthropocene, This Vital Earth, Circularity, Interspecies Relationships, Strange Weather, and The Sixth Extinction.

Wrapping up our monthly block of Stained Glass classes with Amy and Vanessa of A Glass Fantasy. In this workshop you'll learn all the steps to make your own stained glass feather! You'll have 3 designs to choose from, all with their own unique challenges, that you can finish with either a rainbow making crystal or real feathers hanging from it. This is either a beginner level course or an intermediate, depending on the feather design chosen. Each participant will leave with a finished feather hanging approximately 6.5”-7” depending on the design chosen. This class is limited to eight students. Ages 15+. Pre-registration required.

Explore the unique art of mokuhanga printmaking and delicate paper arts by Carol Brown in this beautiful exhibition of work throughout the first floor galleries. Carol explores color, texture, layers and materials using the Japanese woodblock printmaking technique mokuhanga. This unique art form has been a core focus of Carol Brown's practice and exquisitely captured in this summer exhibition. She also works with wood and fiber materials to create compelling textural 3D mixed media works that celebrate the organic nature of the materials with colorful artistic expressions. St. Mary's Art Center, established in 1964, is located in a 4-story historic former hospital building in Virginia City, celebrating its 150th year of construction. Home to art and writing retreats, art galleries, history tours, special events, and more, it is the cornerstone of the arts on the Comstock.

Devotion ~ Ecstatic Dance Music Church is a sacred container that has been intentionally curated for the promotion of deep reflection, exploration, expression and expansion our heart, mind, body and souls. Together we listen, feel, move and heal deeply through the Medicine of Music and the Art of Listening. Ecstatic Dance is a free-form, uninhibited style of dance that encourages self-expression and connection with Music in a non-judgmental and non-verbal space, aiming for a meditative and uplifting experience through movement.

Explore paper, paint, texture, and color to create one‑of‑a‑kind postcards designed to brighten someone’s day. All supplies are provided—including stamps—so you can craft a message of gratitude, kindness, or encouragement and drop it straight into the mail. For generations, the USPS has carried our stories, our thanks, and our love across distances. Join us in honoring that tradition by making something beautiful and sending a little sunshine out into the world. We are a proudly a Passport Stop.

The hard work of ranching, farming, mining and simply living in the vast expanses of our state - these are the main subjects of the Heart of Nevada show for this month. There is such a variety of landscape from the mountains to the rivers, lakes, deserts,expansive skies, and the lights and glitter of the big cities. You will find photography and paintings showing the artists' interpretations of what the Heart of Nevada means to them. The show is open daily in July with the exception of the 4th.

Give yourself a Sunday Reset before your the week with yoga + stretching led by Kiana Moriarty here at The Ballroom of Reno.

We’ll use watercolor paint on artists watercolor paper, then add salt crystals and watch as the paint disperses into beautiful patterns. We will do four each.

Wedding bouquet preservation will be available throughout July, with additional drop off availability during the month. Bouquets are carefully pressed and preserved as lasting keepsakes.

Kinusaiga is a Japanese threadless quilting art form that creates detailed images by pressing fabric scraps into grooves cut into a wooden or foam base, requiring no sewing. Developed from the tradition of repurposing old kimono silk, this technique, often using scrap fabric on insulation board, turns fabric into textured masterpieces. We will provide sample patterns but you are welcome to design anything you would like! No sewing or other skills needed. All supplies will be provided but you are welcome to bring any fabric scraps you would like from your stash. Please note, you will most likely not finish the project during class but tools will be provided to complete your project at home.
